Accessories TRC, TRE and TRL: Design

Selection of the chain size

When filling Triflex® R, sufficient clearance needs to be provided for all electric cables, pneumatic and media hoses, in order to compensate for forces from relative motion between the cables and hoses. As a rule of thumb, the following values apply:

  • The total of cable/hose diameters must not exceed 60% of the available cross section of their Triflex R component.
  • A clearance of at least 10% (min. 1 mm) between any two cables/hoses.
  • Cables/hoses need to be able to move freely inside the Triflex® R.
A list of usable cross sections can be found in the displayed table. igus® would be glad to do the calculations for you.

Example for determining the cable area:

ACable = d² x π
  4
Examples:
A1 = (10 mm x 10 mm x π) / 4
= 78.5 mm² x 7 (No. of conduits)
= 549.50 mm²
A2 = (18 mm x 18 mm x π) / 4
= 254.34 mm²
A3 = (22 mm x 22 mm x π) / 4
= 379.94 mm²
ACable = A1 + A2 + A3 = 1,183.7 mm²
